In Nov. I trasfered 2/3 of my 401 money into Opp Gold & Sp Mineral Fd A,it was about $100. less an oz. than the price of gold is at know.As of yesterday I lost about $3400. Can anyone explain how this is possible? I am realy confused as to how the price of gold could go up so much and I lost money. I also had a Tech Fund and lost a little over $1000. that one I can understand. Thanks:WTF:

The mutual fund holds mining stocks, not the physical metal. At times there can be a disconnect between the price of the physical commodities and the mining company share prices.

You need to get in GLD..it follows the actual price of bullion.

A guy I work with has 100% of his 401K in this..and his acct is in mid-high 6 digits..

The Falls, These are the choices available to me through my 401k. Do you know if any of them are considered to be aGLD, that follows the actual price of bullion, or what the actual name is of a GLD fund? Thanks

Do you pay sales charges on the purchases?

GLD is an ETF (exchange traded fund), I doubt its available in your 401k.

All of your choices listed above are funds that invest in miner's and the like (mining equipment, financing, etc). I would find it highly unlikely that any 401k would allow you an investment in anything that would track the price of bullion directly unless it is a brokerage account that would allow you to buy ETFs.

Your choice may be down now, but then just about everything has tanked. I personally am still a raging bull in the commodity sector and see the producers and their affiliates still being a strong play in the future. We may be having some wild times but the rest of the world is still in a Capital growth stage and will keep the demand for commodities high. Don't be blinded but just the moves in gold and silver, everything that needs to be dug out of the ground will continue to be in high demand as the Chinas and Indias of the world thirst for raw materials will continue(IMHO). A lot of the companies in these funds produce more than the shiny, pretty metals. I know your in NOT too so you should see some of this yourself too.

Good Luck!
